AGM REPORTS 2009-10

Friday 6th

10 Cubs arrived (4 girls + 6 boys)from our contingent.
It turns out our lot are housed in two separate rooms
in the complex. Girls in room 1 ground floor and boys
in room 12 (which is on the first floor). Three other
packs present. Total about 40 children.

Tonight all four of the packs were separately sent
around a course of approximately 1.5 to 2 miles with
maps and instructions to find eleven CD disks hanging
from trees at junctions of tracks. Each disk had a
single letter on them. They had to find the disk and
record the letter. We managed to find all the letters
so we were joint winners with Oxted. A tie break was
then arranged. Hidden amongst the  jumbled eleven
letters collected was the word 'Broadstone'. The
winner was the pack that correctly identified that
word. Guess who was the outright winner, us of
course!!

All the pack in bed by 2310 having had a drink and
bun/cake or both.

Saturday 7th

Long day starting with Grand Howl.  Many of our Cubs then moved on to the first
activity knotting. We had three camp activity sessions in
the morning. Our base was a mapping game which lasted about half an hour so  Jim and Geoff entertained the groups with a
ball game before moving on to the next activity.

A visit to the Camp Providore followed by a half hour
session on the low ropes and two more camp activities
were in the afternoon session.

After dinner a camp fire after which the Day Cubs went
home at about 2130.

The rest of the cubs then visited
the Potholing until 2230.

Sunday 8th

Today they have been building fires and are busy cooking their own lunch.

This morning our cubs were joined by the Godstone Cubs
to follow a flour trail laid by the Godstone Leader.
We had noticed that as the trail continued the amounts
of flour used was gradually diminishing. Eventually
the trail ran cold. At this point some of the Godstone
Cubs spotted their leader who was calling to us. At
first we were a little sceptical about this
particularly when some of the Godstone Cubs announced
of their leader that 'she is always trying to trick
us' It turned out that the Godstone Leader had
actually run out of flour and had got lost!!

Later in the morning the Pack experienced some
backwoods cooking. They were to cook apples and
bananas wrapped in foil on a camp fire. We managed to
get our fire going on the second attempt with Jim
Fensom breathing copious amount of oxygen into the
heart of the fire whilst the Cubs searched for
sufficient dead wood for it.

After lunch, the cubs collected their belongings from
their rooms. A final closing ceremony involving a
short act of worship (Cubs Own). Helena very kindly
wrote a prayer for Hedgecourt's part which she read
out.

After this, it was finally time for the parents to
collect the cubs, hopefully with all their belongings.

Many thanks to Geoff Evans, Jim Fensom, Peter Gibbonsd and Robin Emery.

Dear Parents,

Our weekend camp is fast approaching so detailed below is the information you require. As I cannot be at this camp Geoff Evans is going to be in charge of Hedgecourt assisted by Peter Gibbons and Jim Fensom. As it is a District camp Pat Leveridge the District Cub leader will be in overall charge.

Below is a useful check list of items for camp. It is a good idea to let your child pack their own bag once you have laid out the items together so they know what is in it. Try to pack each days clothes in a separate plastic bag, then if they happen to put something wet in the bag everything else doesn’t get wet. Have a separate bag for jumper and long trousers. Please feel free to add to the list if necessary. Any questions don’t hesitate to ring me.
