Summer Expedition - Wales 2009
We camped between Brecon and the Gower coast.
Friday 24th July
Finally arrived at camp after a 7.5 hr journey! Driving through heavy rain which caused the motorways to clog up.
The explorers are in remarkably good spirits and set about setting up camp.
9pm- All their tents are now up (not the leaders though!) and they have started to cook themselves dinner at last.

Saturday 25th
Weather realy nice. Set up camp. Started building shelters. Weather was so nice we decided to go to the beach for a BBQ in the evening. Most Explorers went swimming.

Sunday 26th.
Started raining during the night. Rained ALL day. Didn't do much except drag wood around the site, making paths in the mud and try to keep dry.

Monday 27th.
Much better day. Rock climbing in the morning. In the afternoon, we all went george walking. This involved wading into a very fast flowing river / waterfall and working our way up stream. The flow was greatly increased by the heavy rain. We went through a couple of small caves. At the top we had to leap off waterfalls and get washed down stream. Everyone survived and ended up with huge smiles on their faces.

Tuesday 28th
Spent the day at the theme park. After doing a very wet ride at around 2pm it rained for the rest of the day.
Wednesday 29th
We woke up to a waterfall running past our tents. The rain started to ease around lunchtime so we set off to climb the highest mountain in South Wales. This is us at the top at around 5pm.

This is what we should have seen on our climb.

Thursday 30th
Sunshine! In the morning we went quad biking and archery. In the afternoon, back to the beach.

Friday 31st
Pack up camp and home. It took a very long time again due to traffic. (Remind me not to travel on Friday!)
Everyone enjoyed the camp, despite the rain and we did all the planned activities.
A big thank you to Rob, Nina and all the Explorers who made the difficult conditions easy to cope with.
Next year, we are going somewhere sunny!
