Camp Update

Saturday 6th August

After a slightly delayed start the scouts and luggage set off in convoy for their campsite.

They have arrived and all worked hard to set up camp. The site is brilliant and everyone is very pleased.

Dinner was cooked by the scouts.

Sunday 7th August

After a good night's sleep the scouts have been busy making camp gadgets in the form of washstands. unfortunately they keep falling down!

They cooked their own lunch in the backwoods cooking and enjoyed baked apples and bananna with garlic bread.

In the afternoon they have been building Bivouacs for tonight.

This evening they are off orienteering.

They are all happy and enjoying themselves.

Monday 8th

Today the Scouts have been on a very long cycle ride in the forest, stopping for a picnic lunch. Most of the Scouts decided to take the short cut home again later in the afternoon heat! Then they all went for an long  swim to cool down. They're all having a great time, and are presently enjoying a wide game called Spotlight. A request has been made to sleep out under the stars. Fiona is wondering why she bothered to pitch the tents at all.

Tuesday 9th

It rained tonight for a few seconds, unlike Cub camp where it rained most of the time. After a very good trip to Beaulieu, all the Scouts are very tired. The dumplings were successful. Today they have tie-dyed T Shirts, and all decided to go to bed early to recharge their batteries for another fun filled day tomorrow.

Wednesday 10th

A fantastic day today with everyone getting on CBBC Live, and obtaining the autographs of the presenters.

Girls then went horse riding and the boys built a scramble net.

Then they all went paddling at a brook in the forest.

They have been sampling the local lardy cake and are now returning to the site for a late night BBQ.

Thursday 11th.

The Scouts have had a fantastic last full day on camp.

This morning they all went rafting, then later the boys took part in the crate challenge.

The highlight of the day was the Ready Steady Cook Celebration Dinner. Tonight camp awards have been presented to the Scouts.

The day was rounded off with a rousing campfire.

All of the Scouts are now safely tucked up in bed, ready for the task of packing up camp in the morning.

Camp Reflections

After a good nights sleep the scouts packed up camp eagerly and headed for home via McDonalds!

Some big thank you's to:

Liz for viewing the site in february with me.
Tiff and Peter for providing a van and driving our equipment to the site and returning to pick it all up and the endless washing and ironing of the tea towels.
Bertie who drove the minibus and towed the trailer for us and has the relevant piece of paper to allow us to camp.
Marc for his support and enthusiasm and helping with the shopping.
Linda and Derek for being home contact and making all those phone calls.
Ro and Simon for keeping the website updated with news and for continuing encouragement and support when it gets tough.
MacDonalds for giving us free ice creams on the way home.

Many thanks to all the parents for the lovely cakes and bottles of wine which were greatly appreciated on camp and for turning up when we arrived home early.

To all the staff at Foxlease for their kindness and help during our stay.

P.s. We would love to see the photos taken by the children in Sept.

Many many thanks to everyone for a fantastic team effort and a fantastic summer camp.

Footnote from Simon: A BIG, BIG thank you to Fiona for organising the whole camp and giving up a week's holiday.
