SATURDAY 20th a.m
After setting up camp in the rain last night, the Scouts managed to get a bit of sleep last night, despite the wind and rain
The campsite has spectacular views over the North Downs.
Everyone was very pleased to wake up to sunshine this morning.
At present the Scouts are tucking in to a hearty breakfast, and the first group will be scuba diving early this morning. The girls are particularly pleased to have horses in the field next door.
Spirits are very high and all the Scouts are looking forward to their themed ready steady cook evening.
At the moment the theme is undecided!

SATURDAY p.m
This afternoon the Scouts had fun and games getting Eddie's van out of the mud. In true Scouting tradition they proved to
be very resourceful and 17 Scouts pushed him out. Hopefully the Scout minibus will not get stuck tomorrow. Today it
had problems slipping and sliding, but they did manage to get out. A trip to Waitrose to buy supplies for the ready steady
cook evening caused a security scare, when Simon became aware of a large number of staff with radios following various
groups of grubby looking youths around the store. After explaining that they were Scouts on camp, not a bunch of gypsies,
the staff were very relieved. The theme tonight is countries, so some interesting international meals should be produced.
All the scouts have been scuba diving. Spirits are still high, and all are cheerful, inspite of rather a lot of wet clothing.

SUNDAY 20th
The Scouts have had a very wet and slippery time packing up. They have managed to
get the minibus off the site and are having lunch at Macdonalds at the moment.
As the weather is so bad it has been decided to leave for home earlier, and they are due
back at the village hall at about 3.15pm
REFLECTIONS
Although a very wet and windy camp to equal the famous millenium camp, everyone
thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It is a long time since we had done a real "green field"
camp ( a camp away from provided facilities) but despite the weather the scouts adapted well.
The Ready, steady , Cook dinners that were produced on open fires on Saturday evening were
outstanding with every group producing fantastic, original dishes.

We had the italian theme with
each course being green, white and red, fantastic chocolate on the fruit! Then we had the
french flag made out of different types of chocolate, mmm delicious. The spanish desert was
raspberries with yoghurt in the colours of the spanish flag and some tasty chicken. However
the winners were a chinese dish of spicy chicken with rice with lychee eyeballs for desert..

The whole evening really showed the capabilities of the young scouts when challenged.
It was good to finally get a chance to light our own fires and just chill out around them too.
Our thanks also to our adults on camp, Bertie who commented that in 18 years of camping
he had only experienced a dry camp once (his fault then!), but demonstrasted his rally driving
skills when he came to leave camp ( pity about his wife's new car!).
And Alan who demonstrated his team building skills with how you can entertain 15 scouts in
folding up a tent, ( a future leader!)

And Steve who enjoyed the experience so much he has now been set the challenge to search for
a site in France for next year's camp where he hopes it might be sunnier! ( Not if Bertie comes!!!)
But the highlight of the weekend must be watching Eddie trying to perfect his rally cross driving
techniques with a transit and a muddy field. Having enlisted the help of 17 scouts to push him clear
the first time he felt confident to take the scout minibus through the same course. ( we have now
refitted the front bumper and mirror!)
Thanks everyone for a great camp.
Simon
